The Montreal Canadiens visit the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Thursday night in NHL action.
Montreal heads into Dallas for the last game of a five game road trip that has been up and down. The Canadiens fell 5-4 to the Carolina Hurricanes in overtime on Tuesday. Montreal led 3-0 in the second period only to see the Canes score four goals over seven minutes on the way to an eventual victory.

The Stars come into the game skating extremely well. Dallas’ current home stand has offered some quality competition, but the Stars have proven that they can play with some of the league’s best teams. The Stars took the St. Louis Blues to overtime in a tight game and beat the Los Angeles Kings in the last game at AAC. The victory over the Kings came just a week after the Stars won 5-2 in Los Angeles, which gives the Stars the season series over the Kings. The Stars are 5-0-2 in the last seven games, which is due in large part to Erik Cole’s five goals over the last six games.
The Stars enter the game with a 4-1 mark in the last five home games, and 6-2-2 in the last ten overall. The home team is 6-2-1 in the last nine meetings between these two teams, and Montreal is 1-5-1 in the last seven meetings in Dallas. The Canadiens tend to play up to the competition, going 7-2 in the last nine contests with an opponent who has a winning record. After the longest road trip of the season for Montreal, I think the Canadiens are hungry for home cooking. I expect the game to be close, but I think Dallas is playing good hockey and the Stars get the best of a team looking forward to the flight home.
