The Staples Center will be the sight of the fourth meeting between the visiting Vancouver Canucks and the Los Angeles Kings.

Vancouver enters Monday’s contest on a few days of rest. The Canucks last played on Friday, which was a 2-1 home win against a difficult St. Louis Blues team. The Canucks will begin a three game road trip in Los Angeles and we could see the team’s starting goaltender, Roberto Luongo, return at some point on the trip. Luongo has been sidelined for the last four games with an ankle injury, but has started to skate and is listed as doubtful for Monday’s tilt. Henrik and Daniel Sedin have been have been facilitating the puck of late with Henrik tallying five assists and Daniel four in the last four games for the Canucks.

Los Angeles Kings vs. Vancouver Canucks - 1/13/14

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

The Kings are focused on closing out the current home stand above .500 with a win tonight and avoid dropping back-to-back games at Staples. In the last game for Los Angeles, a 3-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, In that game, the Kings jumped out to an early lead thanks to a first period goal by Drew Doughty, but he Wings would answer right back before the first period buzzer. The game stayed knotted at 1-1 until the Wings scored the game winner in the middle of the third. The Kings had plenty of scoring chances, but Detroit goalie Jimmy Howard made 44 saves.

In the last 11 meetings between these two teams the Kings are 8-3, which includes a 3-0 record this season. I think the Kings have the Canucks number this year and the team will be focused on closing out this home stand in winning fashion. A play on Los Angeles is pricey, especially against a quality Vancouver team that could be hungry for its first win against a division rival. I would rather look to the total in this game. The Under is 6-1-3 in the last 10 meetings, and 10-4-5 over the last 19 meetings between the two teams. It is just a lean, but I think the best play for the money in this game is the under.
