The Calgary Flames will look to avoid an eight consecutive loss at the Scotiabank Sadldedome on Wednesday night when the Phoenix Coyotes come to town.
Phoenix is coming off a 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. After allowing the Leafs to build a 3-0 lead, the Coyotes never made a game of it despite putting 41 shots on Jonathan Bernier. Phoenix is just 3-7 in the last ten games, but remains in the hunt for a playoff spot in the crowded Western Conference.

The sledding has been tough for Calgary this season, especially at home. On the season, the Flames are 7-14-3 at the Saddledome and have dropped seven straight home games coming into Wednesday night. The Flames are just 2-7-1 in the last ten games overall. In the Flames’ last game, a 3-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks, Calgary jumped out to a one goal lead but allowed the Sharks to score two goals in less than 20 seconds to take the lead. The Flames would knot the game at two, but San Jose’s Joe Pavelski would score his second of the game to win it for the Sharks. The Flames, who rank 29th in the NHL in goals per game, have not scored more than two goals in the last eight games.
This game will be the fourth matchup of the season between these two teams, with Phoenix winning two of the previous games and the home team going 3-0 thus far. In he most recent game, the Coyotes took the Flames to the woodshed, spanking Calgary 6-0. The home team is 7-0 in the last seven meetings, which includes four straight losses in Calgary for the Coyotes. I think that the Flames will have the home losing streak and the embarrassing 6-0 loss to Phoenix in mind when they take the ice on Wednesday night. With that, I think Calgary shows some backbone and squeezes out a victory.
