The Colorado Avalanche and the Florida Panthers meet in NHL action from the BB&T Center on Thursday night.

The Colorado Avalanche come into this game looking to bounce back from a 6-3 loss at the hands of the Capitals in their last game. Washington opened the scoring just over six minutes into the game before J.T. Compher got the Avs on the board with a short-handed goal with 6:15 to go in the first. The lead lasted just over three minutes before Washington re-took the lead. Darren Helm got the Avs back on level terms 3:12 into the second, but a pair of Capitals goals 1:54 apart would put the Caps ahead for good as Washington potted a 5th in the first minute of the 3rd. Mikko Rantanen pulled one back with just over three minutes to go but it was just a consolation goal as Washington popped home an empty-netter to secure the win. Darcy Kuemper took the loss for the Avs, falling to 1-2 on the year after allowing 5 goals on 39 shots faced in the loss.

The Florida Panthers will try to build on a big 4-1 win over the rival Tampa Bay Lightning in their last matchup. The game was scoreless through the opening 20 minutes but Brandon Montour would give Florida the lead with the lone goal of the second period. Tapa Bay would get on the board 2:36 into the 3rd, but Aleksander Barkov would respond for Florida just 1:04 later while Anton Lundell potted an insurance marker with just under seven minutes to go. Anthony Duclair added a 4th on the empty net to ensure the win for the Panthers and send the Bolts back empty-handed. Spencer Knight got the win in goal after stopping 30 of 31 shots faced in the win.

Colorado is 14-3 in their last 17 games against the Atlantic division and 2-5 in their last 7 games as an underdog while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. Florida is 7-3 in their last 10 games following a win and 20-8 in their last 28 home games while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 Thursday games.

This should be an exciting matchup between two of the higher-octane lineups in the entire NHL. With that said, it may be the obvious play, but I’m siding with the over. I’m not fond of the goaltending on either side honestly and we all know the goal-scoring prowess both teams possess. I think we could potentially see double-digit goals in this one. Over all day.
