The Line: Carolina Hurricanes -105 / Ottawa Senators -105 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Hurricanes and Senators make up a cancelled game from last week as they clash in Raleigh on Saturday afternoon.

The Senators will look to get back in the win column after dropping a shootout decision to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday as they stay on the road to face the Hurricanes. Ottawa has had an up and down season but have been on the ascent of late as they have points in 9 of their last 10 and are back in the thick of things in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. The Senators were expected to be in the mix for the Atlantic division title this season after acquiring Bobby Ryan from the Anaheim Ducks but things haven’t quite worked out as they expected and will now have to claw their way in with a strong second half. Robin Lehner has been seeing quite a bit of action this season as it looks imminent he will take over as the team’s starter and he gets the nod in this one against Anton Khdobin for Carolina.

The Hurricanes are a team much like the Senators as they were projected for big things this season and while they too have played much better of late they might be plagued by their slow start in terms of qualifying for the postseason. Carolina has a nice core of talented players at both ends of the nice and a Conn Smythe winning goaltender in Cam Ward but they haven’t been able to find consistency over the last two seasons and as such they have fallen well short of expectations. Carolina is only four points back of the Rangers for second in the Metro division which at this rate is likely their best way into the playoffs and as winners of 7 of 10 they have a great shot again here against the Senators. However, Ottawa to me is the better team overall with the better goalie playing and they seem to thrive away from home while the Canes are a .500 team in Raleigh. This is an early start but I think the Senators are the play here.
