The Maple Leafs look to shake off their humbling loss in Dallas on Thursday as they head to Winnipeg to take on the Jets.
The Maple Leafs have to be the epicenter of the hockey world at least in terms of the dichotomy their fan base possesses as one week they’re playing for a lottery spot and the next they’re planning the parade route for the Stanley Cup. It is a very entertaining and continuous battle that exists in Leafs Nation and after they won six straight games they were shelled by the Dallas Stars to the tune of 7-1 in Frisco on Thursday night. Toronto continues their road trip in Winnipeg on Saturday as they take on the basement dwellers of the Central division and while there is humor in the connotation of Toronto landing a lottery pick it is very much a possibility for the Jets. The Leafs looked ugly in all facets of the game on Thursday but their goaltending let them down as some softies went in and James Reimer who came in in relief of Bernier will get the call here against the Jets.

The Jets have struggled all season long and ultimately it cost Claude Noel his job as the team’s bench boss which led to the immediate hiring of former Leafs and Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice. Winnipeg has to be the most frustrating team in the league as they have a great fan base that turns up every night, a ton of talent, and an administration committed to winning yet they somehow can’t find any sense of urgency or consistency in their play. Winnipeg has roughly four weeks before they decide if they’re going to unload or dish out for some extra pieces and with the way things are going now I wouldn’t be surprised if a number of players land new addresses by season’s end. While I enjoy the angle of Maurice playing against his former team but I would only bite on it if the Jets were considered an underdog. It is ridiculous to think Winnipeg is favoured in this spot as Toronto is eight points inferior to the Jets and to me have the deeper team. I am slightly leaning towards the Leafs here but Is likely a game I won’t be playing on.
