After a tough defeat on Wednesday night, the San Jose Sharks head to the Saddledome to take on the Calgary Flames.
San Jose will travel overnight from Edmonton to Calgary to play the Flames in the second game of a back-to-back roadie on Thursday night. The Sharks were the recipients of tough luck on Wednesday night as Ben Scrivens, Oiler’s goaltender, shut the San Jose offense down. In fact, Scrivens set the NHL record with 59 saves in a 3-0 shutout of the Sharks. The loss is the second consecutive loss and second straight scoreless outing for San Jose. The Sharks fall to 15-11-3 on the road this season with a chance to get back in the win column on Thursday.

Oddly, the Calgary Flames have performed better on the road than at the Scotiabank Saddledome this season. However, suddenly the Flames have won three straight home games, and the wins have come against some descent competition. The most recent of the victories came on Tuesday night in a 5-4 overtime tilt against the visiting Chicago Blackhawks. While allowing the Hawks offense to put in four goals, the Flames managed to stay in control the entire game, never trailing at any point.
The San Jose Sharks are a perfect 4-0 in the last four meetings between these two teams. However, the home team is 4-1 in the last five meetings. The Sharks have played well in back-to-back situations, going 4-1 in the last five games played under such circumstances. I don’t love this game, especially given the large Thursday evening NHL card, but I think there is a good chance that the Sharks bounce back here and take the Flames to the woodshed.
