The Washington Capitals and the Detroit Red Wings meet in NHL action from Little Caesars Arena on Thursday night.

The Washington Capitals will be out to rebound from back-to-back 3-2 losses, their most recent one coming in OT at the hands of the Vegas Golden Knights. Alex Ovechkin has a team-high 9 points with a team-high 5 goals and 4 assists. Dylan Strome also has 9 points with a team-high 7 assists while Conor Sheary and Nick Jensen each have 7 points with Jensen logging 6 assists while Conor Sheary has 4 goals and 3 assists. Evgeny Kuznetsov also has 6 assists up to this point in the year. Darcy Kuemper has gone 4-3-1 with a 2.39 GAA and an .922 save percentage while Charlie Lindgren is 1-1-1 with a 3.03 GAA and a .919 save percentage this season.

The Detroit Red Wings will hope to bounce back from an 8-3 loss to Buffalo in their last game. Dominik Kubalik and Dylan Strome each have a team-high 11 points with Larkin logging a team-high 5 goals and 6 assists while Kubalik has a team-high 7 assists. David Perron also has 6 points with 5 goals of his own and Filip Hronek has 6 assists. Ville Husso has gone 3-1-1 with a 2.40 GAA and a .926 save percentage while Alex Nedeljkovic is 1-2-1 with a 4.96 GAA and an .871 save percentage between the pipes for Detroit this season.

Washington is 2-6 in their last 8 road games and 1-6 in their last 7 games against the Atlantic division while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Detroit is 69-145 in their last 214 games overall and 4-9 in their last 13 home games while the over is 18-7-1 in their last 26 home games.

I get the case to be made on either side here, but I’m not reading too much into Detroit’s loss to Buffalo as the Sabres play well at home and have adopted the play style of their new coach, and the Red Wings have documented struggles on the road. At least the Red Wings play better at home and I’d argue that they have the better goaltending tandem in this matchup up to this point in the year. Washington hasn’t looked right up to this point, and I just think this one goes the way of the Red Wings.
