Ben Scrivens and the Oilers return to action on Saturday afternoon in Boston just two days after the Edmonton netminder set the NHL record for saves in a shutout with 59 against the Sharks.
The Oilers have endured as much hardship as any team in the league over the past few years and haven’t made the playoffs since losing the Cup finals in 2006 but it is the small things that put a bright spot on an otherwise disappointing campaign. That is exactly what we saw on Thursday night as new Edmonton Oilers goalie Ben Scrivens who came over from the Los Angeles Kings put on a clinic between the pipes and blanked one of the game’s best teams with an unprecedented 59-save shutout. The Oilers remain in the basement of the Western Conference despite a three game winning streak but things are looking up in the City of Champions and while it will go down as another underachieving campaign all they can do is move forward and try to stay competitive with the game’s better teams which they see today.

The Bruins remain atop the Atlantic division but will have to start playing with some urgency as teams are coming fast on their heels as they have a four point cushion on the shorthanded Lightning and another three on the Maple Leafs. Boston is a very deep team that adapt its game plan according to their opponent’s strengths and weaknesses and for that reason they are certainly considered a Stanley Cup favourite and will look to make a statement in this one. Boston matches up very well against the Oilers as their physical presence can negate the team speed and finesse the Oilers possess and Boston’s depth should take over here as the third and fourth lines of the orange and blue are considerably weaker. Andrew Ference makes his return to Boston in this one but I don’t know if he will be at 100% percent health but I don’t think it matters here as the Bruins should have no trouble in this spot and start a busy Saturday off with a win.
