NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Blues, Flyers, Tonight's TV Schedule and More
February 7, 2014
Last night was a pretty hectic one in the NHL, and tonight we’re getting another pretty decent-sized dose of action with the five-game schedule on tap. Before we get settled in and wait on those pucks to drop, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy players out there who are making headlines right now. Here’s the latest.
Steve Mason, G, Philadelphia Flyers: Even though he was fighting through cramps for most of the game, Mason stayed in against the Avalanche last night. He played well, too; The result was a 3-1 Flyers win with Mason accounting for 39 saves. He’s now 23-14-5 on the season. Scoring goals were Mark Streit, Michael Raffl and Claude Giroux.
The Flyers are 2-0 this week, and they’ll try to end the pre-Olympics set with a win tomorrow afternoon against Calgary.

Alex Ovechkin, RW, Washington Capitals: There were plenty of contributors in the Capitals’ game last night against the Jets (and we’ll mention a couple of them in a second), but we’ve got to acknowledge Ovechkin first. He notched his 40th goal of the season during the third period of last night’s 4-2 win, breaking a tie at the time and providing the decisive tally. Also of note here were Troy Brouwer (two goals) and Tom Wilson (goal).
The Caps will definitely want to finish things off with a win tomorrow in order to keep pace in the playoff race. They’re hosting the Devils.
Daniel Alfredsson, RW, Detroit Red Wings: Alfredsson has been peppering in the points on and off recently, and he got one last night against the Panthers. He posted a goal in the second period to tie things up at one score a piece, and the Wings would go on to win 3-1. That gives Alfredsson 13 scores to go along with his 21 assists on the season so far.
The Red Wings have won their last two games this week, and they’ll try to make it three tomorrow night in Tampa Bay.
T.J. Oshie, RW, St. Louis Blues: Oshie will be savoring last night’s game for quite some time. He got to play the hero against Boston, posting the game-winning score in overtime for a 3-2 Blues victory. It was Oshie’s 14th goal of the season and his third in the last six games. He’s got 32 assists to go along with it.
The Blues will take today off before getting geared up for tomorrow. They’ll host Winnipeg in the afternoon.
NHL Daily Schedule: 10 teams will be out on the ice tonight, so there should be at least a couple of good games happening. Here’s a look at the full schedule, along with the start times and TV networks carrying each matchup.
