Two points separates the Dallas Stars and the Phoenix Coyotes in the Western Conference standings. On Saturday night, we could see a shake up in the playoff picture as the Stars host the Coyotes at American Airlines Center.
The Dallas Stars head back to the AAC after a three game West coast road trip, where the team went 2-0-1, including a victory over Phoenix. On Wednesday, the Stars played the second game of a back-to-back against the San Jose Sharks. Dallas took the Sharks to overtime, but fell just short in the 2-1 loss. The five-point road trip, featuring wins against the Ducks and Coyotes, kept Dallas alive in the Western Conference playoff race, which is rapidly becoming an attention grabber.

The Phoenix Coyotes take to the road after an up and down five-game home stand. On Friday, the Coyotes faced off against the Chicago Blackhawks to close out the home stand. Mike Smith and the Coyotes were able to shut out one of the best offenses in the NHL in a 2-0 win. Mike Yandle scored about two minutes into the first period and Mike Smith was able to handle the rest, stopping 30 Chicago shots.
This will be the second time that the Stars and Coyotes have met this season, and the second time this week. In the first game, which was played on Tuesday in Phoenix, the Stars were victorious by a score of 3-1.
The home team is 6-1 in the last seven meetings between these two teams. The Coyotes are 1-4 in the last 5 at American Airlines Center in Dallas. The Coyotes are just 1-6 in the last seven road contests and 0-4 in the last four games playing without a day’s rest. I lean to a play on the Stars in this game, but at the current price I will pass on that play considering both teams desperately need wins at this point in the season. Also, Phoenix will be looking for revenge from the loss to the Stars earlier in the week. I think the stronger play is the under. The under is 11-3-1 in the last 15 meetings between the two teams. It should be a tight game with both teams looking to preclude the other from making the big play, I like the under at 5.5.
