The Los Angeles Kings take the ice with the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday.
There haven't been many times when you could say Kings and high scoring in the same sentence but Wednesday was one. Los Angeles outscored Colorado 6-4 on the road in the first game back from the Sochi break with a five goal explosion over the final two periods. Anze Kopitar scored twice with Jeff Carter, Robyn Regehr, Justin Williams and Jarret Stoll each lighting the lamp. The Avalanche appeared to have things in hand with a 4-2 lead but it wasn't to be with Ryan O'Reilly, Jamie McGinn, PA Parenteau and Andre Benoit scoring for the Avs. Jean-Sebastian Giguere recorded 22 saves in the loss with Martin Jones picking up the win with 25 stops.

With the postseason looking more like a dream then reality the Flames might have a few new faces in the lineup Thursday for their first game of the second half. Calgary was playing well before the break, going 6-3-1 yet still sit in the number six spot in the Pacific Division. Scheduled to be between the pipes is Joni Ortio who was the Flames #171 pick in the 2009 draft and really came into his own this year. Ortio was 20-6-0 with a 2.22 goals against average while recording a .926 save pecentage in the AHL. Joining Ortio will be fellow Fin Markus Granlund who recorded 20 goals and posted 23 assists in only 50 AHL contests.
I have no clue what the newcomers will do in their NHL debut but I did like what I saw from the Kings Wednesday. Even though back to bak road games is far from ideal I hope the scoring continues and I'll take them here and look further in to it...
