See the Latest Odds

After a whirlwind evening of games in the NHL last night, the league will be easing up a bit as the weekend gets started, as there are just four games on the schedule. Still, we should see plenty of action out there on the ice, so with that in mind let’s take our daily stroll around the league and see who’s in the headlines. Here’s the latest.

Patrik Elias, LW, New Jersey Devils: The Devils hit the ground (er…ice) running (er…skating) last night against Columbus, using their fast start to cruise to a victory. Elias was one of the big contributors, logging a pair of assists and a goal in the 5-2 win. He has 12 scores and 24 helpers in 45 games so far.
The Devils will play an afternoon game in New York (Islanders) tomorrow, then will start out next week against San Jose at home on Sunday.

Joe Pavelski, C, San Jose Sharks: Pavelski only needed three shots--and one period--to put together a hat trick last night against Philadelphia. He did all his work in the second, helping the Sharks cruise to a 7-2 victory. Logan Couture and Raffi Torres each added a pair of goals to round out the scoring.
The Sharks have a quick turnaround tonight; They’ll head to Buffalo to take on the Sabres. After that, their next game is in New Jersey on Sunday.

Johan Franzen, LW, Detroit Red Wings: Not to be outdone, Franzen registered a hat trick of his own last night, but he needed a whopping two periods and a whopping four shots on goal to get it. His three scores helped Detroit to a 6-1 victory over the Senators, with Jonas Gustavsson (38 saves) anchoring the defensive effort.
That’s it for the Red Wings this week. Their next game is in New Jersey on Tuesday, then they’ll head back home to host Colorado (Thursday) and New Jersey (Friday).

Alex Ovechkin, RW, Washington Capitals: Whenever we talk about a nice offensive output from Washington, chances are Ovechkin has a strong hand in it. That was certainly the case against Florida last night, when he posted a pair of assists and the game-winning goal in the 5-4 victory. He now has 41 goals and 22 helpers on the season so far.
Let’s check out the Caps’ upcoming schedule. They’re in Boston tomorrow, then they’ll head back home to take on the Flyers on Sunday in the first half of a home-and-home.

NHL Daily Schedule: Eight teams will be hitting the ice tonight, so there’s a good chance we’ll see at least a couple compelling games. Here’s a look at the complete schedule, along with the start times and TV networks carrying each matchup.
