In the first of two scheduled meetings between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks, the two teams will meet outside at Soldier Field in what should be an interesting matchup. It’s the finale of the stadium series and temperatures are expected to be in the teens.
The Penguins lost their first game since the break on Thursday to the Montreal Canadians and have now lost two straight and three of their last five. Goalie Marc-Andre Fleury has allowed a combined 13 goals in those matchups. As has been the case for much of the year, the Penguins offense has scored more than enough to win games consistently, as they’ve racked up 23 goals in their last seven games. Pittsburgh is 17-11-2-0 on the road this season.

The Blackhawks also lost their first game back from break, as they fell 2-1 to the New York Rangers. They have now lost seven of their last 10 games. A lot of these losses have to do with a lack of offense. Despite being the highest scoring offense in the league, they’ve only scored a combined three goals in their last three games and just nine in their last five. Goaltender Corey Crawford has allowed two or less goals in seven of his last eight games. The Blackhawks are 18-4-2-5 on their home ice this season.
It’s always tough to cap a game when the game is being played in unusual circumstances. Who knows how the weather will play a factor in the outcome of the game? One thing we do know for sure though is that the visiting team has won the last five outside NHL games dating back to 2012.
When you add that to the fact Pittsburgh is the better team and is getting plus money, there’s just too much value to pass up on the Penguins.
