NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Blackhawks, Devils, Today's TV Schedule and More
March 2, 2014
We’ve got a busy schedule coming up today in the NHL, so it’ll be a big day of hockey-watching over the next several hours. While we’re waiting on those pucks to drop, let’s take a closer look at some of the players out there who are making headlines around the league. Here’s the latest.
Alex Ovechkin, RW, Washington Capitals: Ovechkin certainly has gotten back to business after the Olympic break. He posted another great game against the Bruins yesterday, logging a pair of goals in the 4-2 Caps victory. That makes five points in the two games that he’s been back from Sochi.
The Capitals will get back to work today against the Flyers, then they’ll play in Philadelphia as part of a home-and-home on Wednesday.

Ryane Clowe, LW, New Jersey Devils: The Devils got contributions from several players yesterday in their win, but we’ll start with Clowe first. He tallied a goal and an assist in the 6-1 blowout over the Islanders, which gives him three points in his last two games. Jaromir Jagr (700th goal; assist) and Martin Brodeur (18 saves) both contributed to the victory as well.
Here’s what the week looks like for Jersey: They’ll be at home against San Jose today and Detroit on Tuesday, then head to Detroit on Friday and host Carolina on Saturday.
David Savard, D, Columbus Blue Jackets: Savard’s number doesn’t get called too much when it comes to breaking down game performances, but he deserves some recognition here. He posted a goal and an assist in the Jackets’ 6-3 win over Florida yesterday, giving him four scores and nine helpers on the year so far.
The Jackets will head to Toronto tomorrow, then host Dallas on Tuesday. After that, they’ll go to Chicago Thursday and Nashville on Saturday.
Jonathan Toews, C, Chicago Blackhawks: Now let’s check in on the defending Cup champs in the Stadium Series finale. Toews was great at Soldier Field against the Penguins, providing a pair of goals and an assist in the Hawks’ 5-1 win. That gives him 21 goals and 37 assists so far this year.
Toews and the gang will get a couple of days off before starting out a light week. They’ll play at home against Colorado (Tuesday) and Columbus (Thursday) in their only action this week.
NHL Daily Schedule: 16 teams will be in action today around the NHL, so hockey fans shouldn’t have any problem finding something to watch. Here’s a look at the complete schedule, along with the start times and TV networks carrying each game.
