The Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers will both play back-to-back games when they meet Sunday afternoon at the Verizon Center. This is the fourth of five scheduled meetings against one another, and the Capitals lead the season series two games to one.
The Flyers are coming off a 4-2 home win over the New York Rangers in which they scored at least one goal in all three periods. It was their fourth time in five games where they have scored at least three goals. Goalie Steve Mason did a nice job of bouncing back, saving 33 of 35 shots, and he’s now held opponents to two or less goals in four of his last five starts. The Flyers are 14-13-1-4 on the road this season.

The Capitals are fresh off a 4-2 road win over the Boston Bruins. Alex Ovechkin scored two goals in the win and has now scored a combined four goals in his last four games. The Capitals have been a scoring machine as of late, scoring 22 goals in their last six games. Defensively, goalie Braden Holtby has allowed two goals or less in three of his last four starts. The Capitals are 17-10-2-2 on their home ice this season.
This should be a wonderful matchup between two teams that are playing great hockey as of late. However, there’s a lot of value getting the Flyers plus money. Not only are they the slightly better team, but they’re also 6-2 in their last eight games playing on zero days’ rest. They’ve also won six of their last nine meetings against the Capitals.
Meanwhile, Washington is 1-7 in its last eight games against the Metropolitan.
I look for Philadelphia to stay hot and win its sixth game in seven tries.
