The Line: New Jersey Devils -121 / Detroit Red Wings +110 --- Over/Under: 5 See the Latest Odds
The Detroit Red Wings will wrap up their five-game road trip when they visit the New Jersey Devils. This is the second of three scheduled meetings this season, and the Red Wings won the previous meeting 3-1 back in December.
The Red Wings have won four of their last five games and are doing so with incredible goaltending. In all four of those wins, they’ve allowed one of fewer goals, and that includes the most recent game Thursday against a solid offensive team in Ottawa. Offensively, left wing Johan Franzen has three goals and three assists in his last three games. The Red Wings are 17-9-1-3 on the road this season.

The Devils continue to play streaky hockey, as they’ve split their last eight games. They’re coming off a Sunday road loss to the San Jose Sharks, a game in which they allowed two goals apiece in the final two periods. Offensively, goals have been hard to come by, as they’ve scored two or fewer goals in five of their last seven games. Of course that’s nothing new considering they average 2.4 goals per game on the season. The Devils are 14-8-3-4 on their home ice this season.
It seems like the wrong team is favored in this matchup, as it is the Red Wings who are playing the better hockey at the moment. Not only have the Red Wings won both games since the Olympic break, but they’ve also had several days off, while the Devils will be playing on one day’s rest.
If that wasn’t enough to convince you, Detroit is 7-2 in the last nine meetings against New Jersey, while the Devils are 2-7 in their last nine home games against teams with a winning road record.
I’ll gladly take the Red Wings and the plus money in this spot.
