The New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings will meet for the third and final time during the regular season on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers have won the previous two meetings and will be looking for the season sweep.
The Red Wings were able to snap a two-game losing streak on Friday with a monster 7-4 win over the New Jersey Devils. It seemed like everybody got in on the action, but Johan Franzen’s two goals in the second period really led the charge. The Red Wings have scored a combined 13 goals in their last two victories, which is somewhat surprising for a below-average scoring team. On the road, the Red Wings are 17-10-1-3 this season.

The Rangers are now 1-1 since acquiring Martin St. Louis, as they beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2 on Friday. Martin had an assist in the victory, and the win snapped a three-game losing streak. The Rangers continue to struggle offensively, as they’ve scored three or fewer goals in four of their last five games. However, goalie Hendrik Lundqvist hasn’t exactly helped, allowing a combined 15 goals in his last four starts. The good news for the Rangers is that they’ve allowed only one power play goal in their last five games. They are 15-15-2-2 on their home ice this season.
The Red Wings have absolutely dominated the Rangers over the years, winning 12 of the last 16 meetings. They’re also 7-3 in the last 10 games played in New York.
However, this game will be nationally televised and you can expect a great atmosphere with the Rangers looking to move up in the standings.
The Red Wings have lost their last five games playing on one day’s rest, and are just 3-9 in their last 12 following a victory.
I’ll take the home team for the surprisingly cheap price.
