Last night’s nine matchups provided us with a heavy dose of NHL hockey, but we’ll be easing up a bit this evening. We’ve got just four games on the schedule, but the bright side is that the majority should be pretty competitive. While we’re waiting on game time, let’s take a closer look at some of the noteworthy happenings out there on the ice. Here’s the latest.

Wayne Simmonds, RW, Philadelphia Flyers: Simmonds was the driving force behind the Flyers’ victory yesterday against the Stars. He logged a pair of goals (one on the power play) in the 4-2 win, which gives him 23 scores to go along with his 29 helpers in 69 games so far this season.
Starting tomorrow at home against St. Louis, the Flyers will play four games in seven days. They’ll host the Kings Monday, visit the Rangers Wednesday and host the Leafs Friday.

Teddy Purcell, RW, Tampa Bay Lightning: It had been a while since Purcell had found the back of the net. He snapped a 19-game goal drought last night against Ottawa, tagging a pair of scores in the 5-4 victory. He now has 12 goals to go along with 28 assists on the year. Ryan Callahan tallied the game-winner here, scoring at 11:58 in the third.
Next up for the Lightning as they try to keep their win streak going is a game in Pittsburgh tomorrow afternoon. Next week starts out at home against Ottawa on Monday.

Daniel Alfredsson, RW, Detroit Red Wings: This was a good game. Alfredsson got to play the hero here, finding the net on a lucky bounce with less than one second remaining in overtime to topple the Penguins 5-4. He also had another goal and an assist in the big victory. He’s got 17 scores and 25 helpers in 57 games now.
The Wings will be busy over the next week. They’ll head to Minnesota tomorrow, then finish off the home-and-home in Detroit on Sunday. They’ll head to Columbus on Tuesday, host Montreal Thursday and go to Toronto on Saturday.

Joe Thornton, C, San Jose Sharks: Thornton was a busy man last night against Anaheim. He scored one of the Sharks’ goals and notched assists on the other two in a 3-2 victory over the Ducks. He now has four points in his last two games, and 58 assists (with 11 goals) on the year so far.
Here’s what the Sharks’ schedule looks like coming up: They’ll host Washington tomorrow, then go to Calgary (Monday) and Edmonton (Tuesday), then host Winnipeg (Thursday) and finish up in Colorado on Saturday.

NHL Daily Schedule: Just eight teams will be on the ice tonight, but we should be getting some pretty good hockey out of it. Here’s a look at the complete schedule, along with the start times and TV networks carrying each game.
