The Rangers and Devils renew hostilities in New Jersey as both teams push towards the postseason and could use two points tonight.
The Blue Shirts got off to a very slow start this season as they spent the first two weeks of the season on the road and had to adjust a new regime behind the bench with the arrival as Alain Vigneault began a new era of Rangers hockey. However, New York has really stepped up since and while they’re security in the playoffs is far from a guarantee they look the part right now and are playing with some hype and energy. New York went into Columbus last night and skated away with a pivotal 3-1 win that has put them in sixth place and five points back of third. New York will likely turn to Cam Talbot in this spot as they’re playing in a back to back and King Henrik wnet last night but the Rangers backup served well in Lundqvist’s absence this season and is more than capable of getting his team a big win.

The Devils are coming off a big win in their last outing and will look to upend their division rivals from New York on Saturday as claw their way towards one of the final spots in the playoff picture. New Jersey wasn’t expected to do much this season after losing Ilya Kovalchuk in the offseason but with some nice acquisitions they have found a nice balance and should be back in the playoff discussions sooner rather than later. Heading into Saturday night they are in 11th place in the East and are five points back of the Blue Jackets for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and while they’re not mathematically eliminated I think they’ll be hard pressed to sneak in. Marty Brodeur gets the nod tonight and while his play this season has been limited he has played quite well and would love to send the Rangers to another loss I’m sure but I think it will be tough. New York is rolling right now and I love the way they’re playing despite Marty St.Louis being invisible and if he comes around I think New York has a great shot at pulling off some upsets come playoff time.
