The Jets look to keep their faint playoff hopes intact on Saturday night as they host the lowly Hurricanes in Winnipeg.
The Hurricanes have had another frustrating season and it continued last night in Chicago as they fell to the Patrick Kane-less Blackhawks that sent the Canes to their 31st defeat of the year. Carolina was expected to do big things this season after flopping last year but things have been more of the same in 2013-14 and it could ultimately cost Kirk Muller his job as the team’s bench boss, warranted or not. The Canes haven’t been able to get a full season out of their starting net minder Cam Ward who continues to battle injuries and while Anton Khudobin has played well in relief there is still debate as to whether he is ready to take the step as a legitimate number one option. Carolina will look to extend Winnipeg’s futility as they take on former coach Paul Maurice and the Jets who are still in the discussion of getting into the playoffs but things look bleak.

As disappointing as things have been in Raleigh this season they have been equally as frustrating in Winnipeg as a starved fan base is looking for a playoff berth that looks to be out of arms reach once again. Winnipeg has a pretty solid team with a balance of youth and experience as well as some finesse and grit but they haven’t found any consistency in their game and as a result will likely miss the playoffs for a second straight season. The Jets typically play well at home and while that hasn’t played out as much this season I think they’re in a great spot here against a Hurricanes team playing in a back to back. While I don’t like the price as I don’t think Winnipeg should be in the -150 range against anyone right now I think they come out to play and send the Canes to another deflating loss. I’m going to take Winnipeg in regulation as I think Al Montoya is the difference maker.
