The Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils will play back-to-back games when they meet on Sunday night. This is the third and final meeting between the teams this season, and the Maple Leafs won both in a shootout.
The Maple Leafs haven’t been so lucky lately, losing five of their last six games. A lot of Toronto’s struggles can be blamed on goalie James Reimer, as he’s allowed three or more goals in four of his last five starts. However, to be fair, Reimer has faced 30 or more shots in six straight games. Offensively, right wing Joffrey Lupul has racked up a goal and three assists in his last six games. The Toronto Maple Leafs are 14-15-4-3 on the road this season.

The Devils also haven’t been so hot lately, losing four of their last five games, including a 2-0 shutout to the New York Rangers on Saturday. Scoring continues to be a problem for the Devils, as they’ve scored two or less goals in four of their last six games. Goalie Martin Brodeur continues to be inconsistent and Cory Schneider hasn’t been any better, allowing 18 goals in five games. The New Jersey Devils are 17-9-3-4 at home this season.
The Maple Leafs are 9-20 in their last 29 road games and 4-11 in their last 15 vs. Metropolitan. The Devils are 1-6 in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest and 1-5 in their last 6 vs. a team with a winning record. The Maple Leafs are 6-0 in the last 6 meetings vs. the Devils.
This game could truly go either way with both teams struggling in areas that have cost them games all season. However, the Maple Leafs have dominated the Devils over the years.
Considering we’re getting plus money with Toronto, there’s plenty of value there.
I’ll back the Maple Leafs if forced to pick this game.
