The Line: Calgary Flames +157 / San Jose Sharks -173 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds
The Flames look to build off their 8-1 thumping of the Oilers on Saturday night as they return home to face off against one of the league’s best in San Jose.
The Sharks have been as steady as they come this season as they have been right in the mix in the Western Conference since the puck first dropped and look poised to go on a deep playoff run. San Jose is coming off a shootout loss on home ice against the desperate Washington Capitals but see a very different monster here in a Flames team that is playing with nothing to lose and has embraced the spoiler role. San Jose heads into tonight’s contest sitting in second place in the Western Conference trailing St. Louis by three points but hold the same edge over the Ducks for top spot in the division. The Sharks will go with Antii Niemi who has quietly had a very strong season and should be in the conversation for the Vezina Trophy based on his workload alone. Karri Ramo is slated to get the start for the Flames who had great success against their archrivals from Edmonton on Saturday night.

Calgary has had a tough go this season and sit in second to last place in the Western Conference but regardless of where they sit in the standings they can always feel good about beating the Edmonton Oilers. While the Oil have been a league doormat for the last eight years with this season being no different the Flames have to be ecstatic with the way they played on Saturday night at Rexall Place as they went into hostile territory and left with a convincing 8-1 victory. The Flames return home looking to continue their offensive outpour but will be facing a much stronger team that is coming off a tough shootout loss on home ice. The Flames are looking to the future and with a top end draft pick that could join the team next season Calgary could be back in the playoff picture much sooner than expected. However, in the mean time things will continue to be tough for Calgary especially against the game’s better teams which is what they face here. The Sharks are big favourites which I hate taking on the road but I do think they squeak out a win and pad their divisional lead.
