The Line: Ottawa Senators / New York Islanders --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Islanders look for their third win in a row on Wednesday night as they head into the Canadian Tire Centre to take on a desperate Ottawa Senators team.
The Islanders are starting to play their best hockey of the season but it is way too late to consider them as a possibility for the playoffs and a large part of their success could stem from their nothing to lose type mentality in these contests. New York was expected to be a dark horse in the East this season but a catastrophic mistake involving the trading of Matt Moulson and subsequently Thomas Vanek combined with the John Tavares injury derailed this team’s potential in a hurry. The Isles are coming off a 4-2 win on home ice over the Panthers last night but now take to the road to face off against a frustrated Senators team who has started to play much better themselves of late and still have a shot at the postseason.

The Senators have been a disappointment as well this season but much like their counterparts on Wednesday night they have started to turn things up of late and still have a shot at sneaking in to the postseason. The Sens currently sit five points back of the Blue Jackets for the eighth and final playoff spot in the East and their three game winning streak has kept their heads above water but it remains bleak for Ottawa despite their recent success. All they can do now is continue to play the way they are and hope they can get some help along the way and with the effort we have seen from this team over the last couple of years you can bet they will go down swinging at the very end. While the line hasn’t come out yet and there will be some account for starter’s and New York’s win last night I think this is Ottawa’s game to lose and I don’t expect them to come out flat with their season on the line against a team playing in a back to back.
