Nicklas Backstrom led the offense with a pair of goals with Alex Ovechkin netting number 50 as well to lead the NHL. Carolina's playoff hopes were hanging by a thread when they visited the Rangers Tuesday and now the thread has broke. Needing to win out to even have a shot at the postseason the Hurricanes fell to New York by a 4-1 count which means they will be watching the action on television. The Canes actually led this 1-0 before the Rangers took over with four straight goals to win going away. Brad Richards led the way with two goals on the power play with Beboit Pouliot and Derek Stepan also lighting the lamp to make Henrik Lundqvist the winner with 27 stops. Cam Ward absorbed the loss with 32 saves with Patrick Dwyer netting the only Hurricanes goal.
The road team has won the past four meetings with the Capitals going 7-2 in the last nine trips to Carolina while the under has gone 16-6 in the past 22 match ups. Columbus needs to lose Wednesday or this game cold have a different meaning so it would be wise to wait to bet on this until later...
