The New York Rangers host the Buffalo Sabres at Madison Square Garden on Thursday.
Buffalo has been out of the postseason picture for quite some time which basically means they have been thrust in to the role of spoiler. They appeared to be headed in that direction Tuesday versus visiting Detroit before the Red Wings rode a late scoring burst to a 4-2 victory. Zemgus Girgensons tallied twice for the Sabres with Matt Hackett posting 33 stops as Buffalo dropped their 8th in nine contests. Brendan Smith scored in the second for the Wings with David Legwand, Darren Helm and Pavel Datsyuk lighting the lamp in the third to make a winner of Jimmy Howard and his 25 saves.

The Rangers responded from an early 1-0 deficit with four consecutive goals to upend visiting Carolina 4-1 on Tuesday. The New Yorkers maintained their grip on second in the Metropolitan with Philadelphia also winning. The Hurricanes lone goal came off the stick of Patrick Dwyer with Cam Ward stopping 32 shots to take the loss which eliminated the Hurricanes from the postseason. Brad Richards paced the Rangers attack with a pair of goals on the man advantage with Derek Stepan and Benoit Pouliot also finding the back of the net while Henrik Lundqvist recorded 27 saves.
The Sabres are 1-4 in the last five meetings with the under going 5-0-3 in the past eight match ups in New York while hitting at 19-7-3 in the past 29 head to heads. I am leaning to the Rangers in some form but the odds will be too hefty is my guess but check back when goalies are announced...
