NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Blackhawks, Rangers, Tomorrow's Schedule and More
April 15, 2014
Today’s the final day before the 2013-14 Stanley Cup Playoffs are set to begin, and the anticipation is running high. Before we start planning out our evenings tomorrow, let’s take our daily look around the league and see what types of storylines are brewing as we head into the NHL postseason. Here’s the latest.
Jonathan Toews, C, Chicago Blackhawks: The banged-up Blackhawks look like they’ll be getting a shot in the arm health-wise when the playoffs arrive. Both Toews and fellow injured Hawk Patrick Kane will be participating fully in practice today and tomorrow in the hopes of taking the ice on Thursday in Chicago’s postseason opener against the Blues.
Kane is suffering what looks like a knee injury (he had a brace on it when he returned to the ice) and Toews has an upper-body issue. The Blackhawks have jammed a lot of hockey into the last couple of seasons after going the distance last year, so maybe this break will serve these two well.

Ryan McDonagh, D, New York Rangers: Speaking of impact players who look ready to return for the playoffs, McDonagh certainly fits into that category. He’s been sidelined for the last couple of weeks after sustaining an injury to his shoulder on April 1 but is supposedly all healed up now.
Thursday, the Rangers will open up against the Flyers and they’ll need McDonagh to be on his game. He set career-highs in points (43) and goals (14) during 77 appearances this season.
