The Line: Detroit Red Wings +127 / Boston Bruins -140 --- Over/Under: 5 See the Latest Odds
The Red Wings look to even the score in their series with the Bruins while the visitors look to head home to Boston with a chance at closing out the series.
The Bruins were blanked by a 1-0 final in their series opener with the Red Wings at the TD Garden last week but it has been all Boston since as the President’s Trophy winners have coasted in the last two games and have only conceded two goals all series. Boston was a perennial favourite heading into the playoffs and they are starting to show why as they simply overmatch the Red Wings in every facet of the game and their dominance is reflected in the line in this one as the B’s are -140 favourites on the road in hostile territory. Tuukka Rask was a game away from guiding the Bruins to the Stanley Cup last season and you can be sure part of his success this year has come from an aching motivation from last year’s collapse in game six against Chicago. The Bruins have a great shot at pushing the Red Wings to the brink here but they know that Detroit will be playing some desperate hockey here and that if they don’t get the win and have to head back to Boston they can pretty well pack up and go home.

The Red Wings have had a bit of a disappointing campaign by their standards as many had them as the favourite to win the Eastern Conference this season but injuries have derailed their Cup aspirations and with the way they’re going at the moment they could only have two games left this year. Detroit does have some veteran leadership with a ton of playoff experience and with the potential return of Henrik Zetterberg on the horizon the Wings could get a boost and thrive off the energy at the Joe. Jimmy Howard hasn’t played poorly in the playoffs but he hasn’t had a ton of help in front of him and if the Wings can match Boston’s physical play and limit the amount of penalties they take they have a great shot at sending this thing back to Boston. While the Bruins are the safe play here I think Detroit is more than capabale of taking this one at home and ensuring one more game at the Joe but they’re going to have to play one of their best games of the season to do so. Take a shot here with the home side.
