The Philadelphia Flyers look for some magic at home in game six against the New York Rangers.
The Rangers rode an early lead in knocking off Philadelphia 4-2 in taking a 3-2 series lead Sunday. New York continued to get on the scoreboard first and force the Flyers to play catch up although a 3-0 lead was reduced to 3-2 with 89 seconds left before an empty netter ended it. The difference in this series is the Rangers have been in the lead and the Flyers have been struggling to score throughout.
USA TODAY Sports
New York looked strong at the offensive end throughout with Mark Staal opening the scoring in the first before the lead ballooned to 3-0 on the strength of second frame tallies off the sticks of Dominic Moore and Brad Richards. Vincent LeCavalier and Claude Giroux responded for Philadelphia for their first goals of the series but they could get no closer with Brian Boyle finding the empty net in the closing seconds. Henrik Lundqvist picked up the win with a 24 save performance while Steve Mason took the defeat despite 37 stops.
The key in game six is no different then it has been the entire series. For the Rangers scoring early and turning to their defense and the goaltending of Lundqvist has been a winning formula while the Flyers would like nothing better to get a lead and play frontrunner. The home team has generally fared well and that says Philadelphia has the edge but I want to see the odds when released so please check back later...
