The Pittsburgh Penguins head to the Big Apple to take the ice with the New York Rangers Monday.
Pittsburgh turned up the heat at the defensive end to down the Rangers 3-0 to even their series at a game apiece. The Penguins faced the prospect of getting swept at home and beat the defensive minded New Yorkers at their own game Sunday. The Pens exerted themselves defensively and limited the amount of rubber Marc-Andre Fleury saw while making counterpart Henrik Lundqvist work. After a scoreless opening 20 minutes Kris Letang got the Pens on the scoreboard at the 10:26 mark of the middle stanza when his pass attempt deflected off New York's Dan Girardi and in to the back of the net. The score stayed that way until 3 1/2 minutes remained in regulation when Jussi Jokinen netted a power play goal. With Lundqvist pulled for the extra attacker Evegni Malkin found the empty net with 53 ticks left on the clock.

Fleury brushed aside 22 shots for his first shutout of the postseason and 7th in his career while Lundqvist was charged with two goals on 34 shots. New York continued to struggle with the man advantage with another 0-4 mark on the night although getting shots was an issue overall with a big goose egg in the SOG department in the final 11 1/2 minutes of regulation. The keys in game three for the Pens is to get more of their offensive stars involved in the scoring as Sydney Crosby failed to light the lamp Sunday for the 13th straight game in the playoffs while keeping up the defensive pressure. The Rangers would fare better if they led early and avoid struggles at getting shots on Fleury because you can't score without shooting. Last but not least, I have no love for the Rangers as a Philly fan but another back to back game...ridiculous. Please check back when a line is released and I'll update by Monday afternoon...
