The Los Angeles Kings look to even their Western Conference finals with the Chicago Blackhawks in game two Wednesday.
The Kings pulled off a pair of dramatic game seven victories but that didn't help them in the Western Conference finals opener versus Chicago. The Blackhawks controlled the Los Angeles offense and did just enough scoring themselves in a 3-1 decision at the United Center on Sunday. The Blackhawks had the fresher legs and never trailed as they proved to have a goaltender and defense to match the Kings.

Scoring the first goal is always a key and that honor went to the home team when Nick Leddy's blast was tipped in by Brandon Saad on the power play at 5:14 of period one. Tyler Toffoli evened the score when he tipped in a pass from Tanner Pearson but the Blackhawks regained the lead when Duncan Keith's slapper from the left point bounced off a pair of defenders and over the goal line for a 2-1 advantage heading to the final frame.
Toffoli nearly tied it two minutes in to the third when his shot rang off the right post. A three on one break produced added insurance when Jonathan Toews one timer gave Jonathan Quick no chance. Quick finished with 17 stops while Corey Crawford picked up the win with a 25 save performance. The Blackhawks had more rest in the opener with the Kings already having played 14 games and Chicago has been unbeatable at home having won 18 of their last 20 postseason games on their ice.
Los Angeles has a few days to rest up but when I look at this match up I don't see anything the Kings do as something the Blackhawks can't do as well or better. I'll have a pick game day hours before start time but I expext another low scoring affair...
