The Canadiens look to keep their season alive for the second straight encounter as they head to MSG to face the Rangers in game six.
The Montreal Canadiens kept their Cup dreams alive with a much needed victory on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre as they outlasted the Blue Shirts in a high scoring affair that ended up 7-4 for the home side. The Canadiens were dealt a serious blow after learning Carey Price would be out for the remainder of the series with a knee injury sustained in a game one blowout loss and while things would likely be different if Price was still in the cage his replacement Dustin Tokarski has been brilliant. Montreal will need to skate away with their second road win of the series on Thursday night in order to force a deciding game seven back in Montreal but they know the Rangers will be treating this contest as a must win as they know that heading back to Montreal in a do or die circumstance isn’t ideal and that the Canadiens will have the momentum in that circumstance. Montreal needs to get Thomas Vanek going as he has been a ghost offensively and while the likes of Rene Bourque have stepped up and filled the void it is time the big guns up front get going and carry this team on their shoulders.

The Rangers have their second chance at claiming the Eastern Conference banner and advancing to the Stanley Cup finals with a win on home ice tonight and after the way they played in Montreal on Tuesday you can only expect a better team effort. Henrik Lundqvist was pulled for the second time in these playoffs in the second period of Tuesday’s loss as Cam Talbot came in but didn’t fare much better as the Habs put up seven on the Blue Shirts and skated away with a much needed victory. Lundqvist was also pulled in game six of their series with the Flyers in the opening round but he responded brilliantly in the deciding game seven as he shut down the Flyers offense and almost single handily led the Rangers to the second round. As mentioned, the Rangers absolutely need to win this game as I don’t see them being able to go into Montreal in game seven and leave with a win and while I don’t like the price here as Montreal is more than capable of getting the win I just think this is the time for New York to finally push through and get back to the Cup finals despite the fact that I think they’ll get waxed by whoever they face in the finals. I’d recommend a play on the total here though as I think game five was an aberration and we get back to a tight checking battle of the goaltenders and I like the under.
