NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Kings, Stanley Cup Finals TV Schedule and More
June 2, 2014
With the conclusion of the Western Conference Finals last night, we’ve now got our matchup set for the NHL Finals. The puck will drop on that one Wednesday, but in the meantime there are plenty of storylines to peruse and players to check out. Let’s take our daily cruise around the league and see what’s happening out there.
Alec Martinez, D, Los Angeles Kings: An epic Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Kings and the Chicago Blackhawks concluded with an epic Game 7, fittingly enough.
The Kings fought back not once, not twice, but three times during the game to eventually beat the defending champion Blackhawks in overtime 5-4, halting Chicago’s comeback and cementing their own Stanley Cup Finals bid.
Martinez scored the game-winner in OT after Marian Gaborik knotted things up at 12:43 in the third. Los Angeles is now the first team in NHL history to win three game 7s on the road in a single playoff run.
They’ll move on to face the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals, which begins on Wednesday. The NHL is probably salivating at the prospect of a bicoastal series in the country’s two biggest markets. That aside, it should be interesting to see what the high-powered offense of L.A. can do against the stout defense of New York.

Carey Price, G, Montreal Canadiens: Let’s take a moment to check in on Price, as we got some new information on him over the weekend. It’s good news for Montreal: He’s not going to require surgery on his injured knee and will simply rest and rehab this off-season.
Price was injured during a collision in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals and didn’t see the ice again during the series. He should be back to 100 percent by the time training camp rolls around.
J.T. Miller, C, New York Rangers: While we’re on the subject of injuries, let’s check in on Miller. He wasn’t able to practice with the rest of his team yesterday, but did do some skating on his own afterward.
Miller is battling a shoulder injury that kept him out during part of the conference finals, but should be able to return at some point during the Stanley Cup Finals. He’s reportedly “a couple more days” off from a recovery.
