NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Rangers, NHL Finals TV Schedule and More
June 9, 2014
We’ve got a relatively quick turnaround coming up in the 2014 NHL Stanley Cup Finals tonight, with Game 3 on its way in just a few hours. We’ve already seen some impressive things out there on the ice, and we’re sure to get plenty more by the time this series is finished. That said, let’s take our daily look at the NHL headlines.
Rangers Keys to Game 3: This was an absolute worst-case scenario for the Rangers. After two games in Los Angeles, they return home tonight down in the Stanley Cup Finals 0-2, coughing up two-goal leads in both games and left searching for answers as to how they gave up a two-game swing.
The team is visibly frustrated--and you really can’t blame them--but they need to focus and regroup as they prepare to defend their home ice for the first time in the Finals. New York must put Games 1 and 2 in their rearview mirror and focus on the task at hand, which is winning tonight. Don’t expect to see a whole lot of adjustments and different looks from the Rangers in this one; For the most part, they’ve played well but have committed mistakes and defensive lapses at the most inopportune times. They’ll get a big lift from the home crowd tonight, and might just be able to ride that wave to their first win of the series.
The Kings, of course, will have other ideas. They’re a veteran team that doesn’t scare easily, and they’ll be looking to take full control by stealing one at the Garden.

Ales Hemsky, RW, Ottawa Senators: It looks like the Senators and Hemsky will be parting ways this off-season. The winger turned down the team’s latest offer and will try his luck on the open market. He’s reportedly looking for more than $5.5 million per year.
Hemsky will be a free agent (unrestricted) when that period opens up on July 1, which will leave the Senators in need of a replacement at his position.
