NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Kings, Rangers, NHL Finals TV Schedule and More
June 11, 2014
Game 4 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals is tonight, and it’s getting down to do-or-die time for the Kings and Rangers. Before we get settled in and wait for the game to get going, let’s check out some of the noteworthy headlines around the league and see what’s happening right now.
Rangers Game 4 Keys: Tonight’s Game 4 in New York will mark a last-chance scenario for the Rangers, who are staring the off-season in the face after losing their home Stanley Cup Finals opener. Can the team regroup and pull off an amazing four wins in a row to resurrect their season? Well, the short answer is “no,” as history simply isn’t on their side.
Still, New York can hang their hats on the fact that they played well enough to win a game (or actually, both games) in Los Angeles, not to mention the pair flukey L.A. goals in Game 3, so they’re not exactly outmatched. They’re staring at an mountainous uphill climb to get back into this thing, though, which might wear on them psychologically.
The big key here for New York is to simply focus on the here and now: They’ve got to concentrate on winning this single game, and try not to think about the 0-3 hole. Winning on home ice would give them a bit of momentum heading back across the country, and momentum is something they’re sorely in need of right now.

Kings Game 4 Keys: Conversely, the Kings are sitting pretty right now. They need only to win one more game--which they easily could accomplish tonight--to squash the Rangers and claim another Stanley Cup victory. The 3-0 cushion is obviously a best-case scenario, but could prove to be a downfall in Game 4.
It wouldn’t take much for the Kings to slip into a false sense of security here--taking their enormous lead for granted and falling off their game. We don’t think they’ll do that, though. This is a veteran team that’s been in this position before and we should see nothing but professionalism tonight.
Los Angeles has been on both sides of a big series hole in these playoffs, and they know they’ve got to take each opportunity as it comes. They know they’ve got to step on the Rangers’ proverbial necks and crush all hope right now. It’ll be difficult to avoid the distractions of the Cup within a fingertip’s reach, but this team is more than capable.
