We’re coming off a pretty quiet weekend for NHL transactions, but there were a few noteworthy happenings over the past couple of days. We’ve got lots to look forward to this week as well, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look at some of the notable headlines out there right now.

Sarich Update: We got some fresh information on former Avalanche defenseman Cory Sarich this weekend, and it seems to be pretty positive. He’s currently recovering from a broken back and in all likelihood will make a full recovery.
Sarich broke five vertebrae after getting hit by a car while he was riding his bike one week ago. He didn’t need surgery or a brace, however. He’s an unrestricted free agent right now, and it’s unclear what kind of timetable he’s looking at to get back to the league.
Over 14 years in the NHL, Sarich has racked up 21 goals and 137 assists with the Sabres, Lightning, Flames and Avalanche.

Adam Deal: Sabres C Luke Adam inked a fresh deal with the team yesterday. He’ll be re-signing in Buffalo after the team extended a qualifying offer his way last month.
It’s a one-year deal for the former second-rounder, who has shown flashes of his potential since his rookie season in 2008-09. If he can’t show some extended promise this year, however, it could spell the end for his tenure in Buffalo.

Brassard Deal: Here’s a major signing out of New York. The Rangers inked C Derick Brassard to a five-year, $25 million contract extension yesterday, which is great news for fans of the team.
Brassard filed for arbitration earlier this month, but the situation didn’t culminate in a hearing, as the two sided ended up settling. Stats-wise, Brassard posted 18 scores and 27 helpers in the 2013-14 campaign and will need to step up to fill the free agency exits facing the defending Eastern Conference champs.
