NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Off-Season Schedule and More
September 7, 2014
This past week gave us plenty of notable NHL tidbits, which is a nice thing to be able to say during an empty off-season period. The news continues to trickle in from around the league as we inch closer to the new campaign, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look around the league and check out some of the notable situations and storylines out there.
Ellis Outlook: Late last week, we got some fresh speculation on defenseman Ryan Ellis and the Predators; The news isn’t necessarily good.
Sources close to the team report that the two sides aren’t close to agreeing on a new contract, despite Ellis’ 27 points in 80 appearances during the 2013-14 season. He’s currently a restricted free agent.
The trepidation on the Preds’ part could be due to their depth with blue-liners. They don’t want to overpay Ellis when they don’t have to.

Eminger Latest: Defenseman Steve Eminger, formerly with the Rangers organization, inked an AHL deal with the Bruins late last week. He played with CSKA Moscow and AHL Norfolk last season. Odds are he won’t make it to the NHL level in 2014-15, though.
Fraser Deal: C Colin Fraser inked a one-year, two-way deal with the Blues Friday. He was with the Kings and AHL Manchester last season. In his 33 NHL games, he posted six points. It’s entirely possible he could land with the Blues in 2014-15, so we’ll have to see how he looks in the early-going.
Potter Deal: Former Bruin defenseman Corey Potter inked a one-year, two-way deal with Calgary Friday.
Potter played with the Oilers and Boston last season, posting five helpers in his 19 appearances overall. According to the buzz surrounding the team, he’s got a pretty good chance at making the roster at the NHL level, so keep an eye on him if you’re a Flames fan.
