NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Off-Season Schedule and More
October 4, 2014
We’re now just four days away from the official start to the 2014-15 NHL season, and the anticipation is palpable. There are plenty of headlines and news items to go over in the meantime, so with that in mind let’s take our daily look around the league and see who everyone’s talking about.
We doubt the Canucks’ Eddie Lack will get any ice time in today’s final preseason game against the Oilers, so let’s take a look at his exhibition stats and see where he’s at heading into the regular campaign.
Lack was stellar in the preseason, logging a grand total of 57 saves on the 58 shots that came his way. That translates into a nifty .983 save percentage.
Those numbers will give the Vancouver coaching staff quite a bit to think about. Currently, Lack is No. 2 behind Ryan Miller, but the early indications seem to state he’ll be getting his fair share of starts as the season progresses--if he can keep it up.

The Islanders’ Matt Carkner wasn’t able to make it onto the ice yesterday in the team’s last preseason game, as he’s still nursing an upper-body injury. He’s considered day-to-day, but there’s been some concern that he may be in danger of missing out on the season opener October 10. Stay tuned.
The team made it official yesterday: Winger Tomas Tatar’s preseason is all finished. He won’t be playing this weekend as the Red Wings complete their exhibition schedule, thanks to the concussion he sustained a little while back.
That said, Tatar’s injury was considered mild and the general consensus seems to state that he’ll be okay for the regular-season opener on October 9.
Good news for the Panthers. Defenseman Dmitry Kulikov was able to return to the practice ice yesterday.
There had been some concern over Kulikov’s condition after he took a puck to the foot during the team’s preseason game on Thursday, but it appears he’s A-OK and should be fine when the regular season gets going.
