NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Off-Season Schedule and More
October 5, 2014
Last week was a big one when it comes to NHL news, and with the new season starting in just three days, we’re sure to get lots more updates on our favorite teams before then. In the meantime, let’s check out some of the notable names out there and see which players are making headlines in our daily updates.
The Penguins’ top line looks pretty good heading into the season, and the team is expecting big things from right winger Pascal Dupuis. He’ll be skating next to Sidney Crosby, and has the potential to post a 20-30 goal season.
Dupuis does have some question marks attached to him after he missed out on half the year in 2013-14 due to injury, but certainly has the pedigree to succeed.

Although the Kings’ Marian Gaborik is fighting off an undisclosed injury, things seem to be looking good for him heading into the regular season. He says he’s expecting to be ready for the opener this week.
Gaborik just inked a seven-year extension with L.A. this off-season, so he’ll be a fixture with the Kings for a long time to come.
Late last week, the Red Wings put center Pavel Datsyuk on short-term injured reserve, with the move being retroactive to September 22. He’ll be put back on the active roster as soon as he’s ready, but isn’t expected to be able to start the season on the ice.
Datsyuk is recovering from a separated shoulder, but has been participating in non-contact practice activities. His expected return is between the middle and end of this month.
The Capitals will be starting out a couple of key players on IR this year. Both Dmitry Orlov and Tom Wilson will be on the list, so let’s take a closer look at each and see what we can be expecting.
Orlov is fighting a wrist injury, and has been skating on his own during practices. He hurt himself during the IIHF World Championships. When healthy, he should be back in a pairing with Mike Green.
As for Wilson, he’s got a leg injury, which has prevented him from practicing with the team during camp. Most people close to the Caps say he’s in line for a significantly more involved role this year, so he’ll be a player to watch.
