NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on the Latest News, Daily Schedule and More
October 8, 2014
Today’s the day. The 2014-15 NHL regular season will get started tonight with a quartet of games on the schedule. The anticipation is running at a fever pitch right now, so let’s kill some time by taking our daily look at the top storylines around the league.
The Hurricanes’ Elias Lindholm has a bruise on his foot, but was able to log some practice time yesterday. All indications point to him being available when the team picks up their regular-season workload on Friday against the incoming Islanders.

The Wild inked center Ryan Carter to a deal on Monday, which gives them some extra forward depth. Carter posted 10 points (seven goals; three assists) in 62 games with the Devils during 2013-14.
The Ducks’ Cam Fowler left last Thursday’s practice with a lower-body injury, but has been able to skate this week. That’s a good sign for his availability for Anaheim’s season opener tomorrow, but he’s still considered questionable.
Let’s take a look at some of the Sharks’ recent headlines. It looks like left winger Tye McGinn has made the final roster. He’ll be in the third line.
Joining McGinn on that No. 3 line will be Chris Tierney, who has loads of potential in that mix.
Eriah Hayes will also be featured on that opening night roster, and though sources close to the team don’t expect him to be featured right away, he’s definitely in for some chances down the road.
The Blackhawks’ Kris Versteeg has sustained a lower-body injury. He’ll be getting checked out today. According to the team, this is a different ailment aside from his knee, which has given him trouble in the past.
That said, there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of optimism in Blackhawks land surrounding Versteeg’s immediate diagnosis. We’ll see how things play out.
