The Line: Florida Panthers +104 / New Jersey Devils -115 --- Over/Under: 5 See the Latest Odds

The New Jersey Devils and Florida Panthers play Saturday night at the BB&T Center.

The New Jersey Devils crushed the Philadelphia Flyers in their first game with a 6-4 victory. Despite blowing multiple leads throughout the game, the Devils scored three goals in the final period and began a four-game road trip with a win. Mike Cammalleri scored two of the six goals and Michael Ryder picked up an impressive three points. In Cory Schneider’s first game as the Devils main goalie, he stopped 35 of 39 shots, including 12 of 13 shots in the third period. Overall, it was an impressive performance for the New Jersey Devils and a nice start to the season after what the team experienced last year. You would like to see the Devils focus a little more on defense now, as close to 40 shots on goal is putting a ton of pressure on a young goalie.

Florida Panthers vs. New Jersey Devils - 10/11/14 NHL Pick, Odds, Prediction

The Florida Panthers lost a heartbreaker on the road to the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 in overtime. Despite the loss, the Panthers brought a level of toughness that they haven’t had in the past. However, there’s a difference between being tough and stupid, and 10 penalties throughout the game was more of the latter. All three of the Lightning's goals came on power plays, and it was the real difference maker in the Panthers picking up an extra point for the victory. Offensively, rookie Aaron Ekblad had an assist and two shots on goal in his debut, and Erik Gudbranson and Jonathan Huberdeau were the two Panthers who found the net. The Florida Panthers played a pretty solid game despite the penalties and you have to think that will continue with their home opener.

The Devils are 17-41 in their last 58 road games and 4-10 in their last 14 games following a win. The Panthers are 2-5 in their last 7 home games and 23-55 in their last 78 games playing on 1 days rest. The Devils are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Florida, while the home team is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings.

The Panthers feel like they should have won that game against Tampa Bay and will likely be a little smarter on the ice now that they have a game under their belt. I look for the Panthers to bounce back here and get the W against a New Jersey team that usually doesn't play well in South Florida.
