October 11

See the Latest Odds

Last night was pretty thin when considering NHL action, as there was just one game on the schedule. Things will pick back up again today, as we’ve got a whopping 15 games coming our way in the next several hours. In the meantime, let’s check out our daily wrap-up on the headlines around the league.

According to reports released yesterday, the New York Islanders’ Michael Grabner will be out of action indefinitely following a sports hernia surgery on Thursday.
Well, at least we know what the lower-body issue was with Grabner. He was placed on injured reserve on October 6, retroactive to September 26. We’ll keep you posted on his recovery.
Grabner is coming off a 26 point (12 goals) campaign in his 64 appearances during 2013-14.

The Capitals’ Tom Wilson won’t be back out on the ice for at least a little while, according to coach Barry Trotz. He said that Wilson will be out of action for at least two more games, and it’s assumed he’ll need some conditioning in the AHL before he gets off of injured reserve. Wilson is battling back from a leg injury.

The Rangers’ Henrik Lundqvist won’t be in net today; Backup Cam Talbot will take over the goaltending duties.
Lundqvist, meanwhile, is getting some early rest on the front side of this back-to-back. He’ll be back in the game tomorrow against the Maple Leafs for the Rangers’ home opener. Lundqvist posted 23 saves on 25 shots in his debut win on Thursday against the Blues.

Brock Nelson, C, New York Islanders: What a great start for the revamped Islanders this season. Led by Nelson’s two goals and two assists, New York took a 5-3 win over Carolina last night to get the 2014-15 campaign going on the right foot. Johnny Boychuk also contributed a goal and two assists, while John Tavares managed a trio of helpers himself.
