The Calgary Flames and St. Louis Blues play Saturday night at the Scottrade Center.
The Calgary Flames simply beat up the Edmonton Oilers to improve to 1-1 on the season with a 5-2 victory. In fact, it was mostly a one-man show for the Flames as three of Mason Raymond’s seven shots on goal found the net for a hat trick. Jiri Hudler and T.J. Brodie scored the other two goals just for good measure as the Flames picked up a feel good win over their rival. Hudler has now scored in both games this season and seems to be on pace for another solid year with Calgary. Karri Ramo blocked 38 of 40 shots, simply topping Jonas Hiller’s subpar performance in the season opener against Vancouver. Don’t be surprised if Ramo gets the nod in this game after such a performance. The Calgary Flames are looking for their seventh win in last 10 tries dating back to last season.

The St. Louis Blues couldn’t get much going in their season opener against the New York Rangers as they lost, 3-2. The Blues certainly had their chances with eight different power plays and couldn’t find the net once. The Blues didn’t score their first goal until early in the third period and allowed Rick Nash to find the net late for a heartbreaking defeat in front of their home fans. Jaden Schwartz and Paul Stastny were the two players who scored for St. Louis, and Vladimir Tarasenko had four shots on goal. Brian Elliott did stop 22 of 25 shots but has now lost four of his last six games he’s played in dating back to last season. The good news for the Blues is that they won’t be facing Henrik Lundqvist in this match and will have a chance to produce more consistent offense.
The Flames are 23-48 in their last 71 road games and 5-13 in their last 18 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation. The Blues are 38-16 in their last 54 home games and 0-4 in their last 4 games playing on 1 days rest. The Flames are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings in St. Louis.
I absolutely hate the chalk in this matchup, but the Blues should bounce back here with the victory. The Flames have questions at goalie and are the ones traveling with little rest in between. There's better options on the board but the Blues are the pick if you must.
