The Red Wings look to bounce back on home ice on Wednesday when they host the Boston Bruins at Joe Louis Arena.
The Boston Bruins have stumbled out of the gate to start the regular season and after dropping a 2-1 decision on home ice to the Colorado Avalanche the B’s dropped to 1-3 on the year and they don’t look like the Big Bad Bruins we have come to expect. Boston was outlasted by the Montreal Canadiens in seven games in last year’s playoffs as the Habs advanced to the Eastern Conference finals and it look as though teams are taking notes from Montreal’s victory as we are seeing teams figuring out how to beat the Bruins though it is just four games in to the season. The Bruins still have most of their core in place but their older players are another season along and some of their younger stars have moved out of town and as such we are seeing a different version of the Bruins we have come to know. The B’s will look to move one step closer to the .500 mark with a win in Detroit against a Red Wings team without Pavel Datsyuk.

The Red Wings are a team in a weird spot as they have a ton of young players that have shown they can make an impact in this league but on the other hand they are still holding on to the success they have generated over the last 10 years. Detroit could be a missed postseason away from blowing things up but with the likes of Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar, and Danny DeKeysar in line to be the leaders of the next generation of Red Wings stars it wouldn’t make much sense doing a complete rebuild as they have the talent in place to succeed. Henrik Zetterberg and the injured Pavel Dastyuk are still world class talents and can lead the Wings to another playoff berth but just how far this team can go remains to be seen and I think they might be in for a tough go this season. We are getting the Bruins here at a crazy price as they have slipped to 1-3 but without Dastyuk providing scoring ammunition I think the Bruins are the play here and we get them on the cheap.
