The Penguins look to stay undefeated on Thursday night as they host the Dallas Stars in Pittsburgh.
The Stars were a preseason dark horse to do some damage in the Western Conference this season after they acquired Jason SPezza and Ales Hemsky from the Ottawa Senators and despite sitting at 1-1-1 on the year those expectations are still sky high. The Stars made the playoffs a season ago and were a couple breaks away from knocking off the Anaheim Ducks in the opening round and that was before they brought in reinforcements alongside Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. The Stars should be able to score with anyone in the league and against Sidney Crosby and the Pens they’ll have to be able to keep pace with the game’s best player who hasn’t skipped a beat to start the season and looks like he has his eyes set on the prize.

Pittsburgh is always a tough team to beat especially at home but this is a different version of the Pens that I think will level out a bit as the year goes along. They lost some key pieces at the back end and are without James Neal up front and while they have the secondary scoring to account for the loss of Neal I’m just not sure they’re as good as they were a season ago. They are under new guidance behind the bench and a fresh start is sometimes good for everybody which at the moment it appears as though it has worked wonders for the Penguins who have won their first two games of the year. However, this is a Stars team that is looking to prove they belong with the game’s elite and in order to do so they’re going to have to win big games on the road like this one. This is a crazy price for a good team and I say we take a swing here with Dallas or nothing at all.
