The New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals meet Thursday night at the Verizon Center.

The New Jersey Devils have been one of the more impressive teams out of the gate, winning their first three games and currently sitting in first in the metropolitan division. The Devils have already scored 13 goals this season, which is the second most of any team that’s played only three games. Mike Cammalleri is leading the charge with four of those goals, as he’s clearly on pace to top what he did last season for the Calgary Flames. Michael Ryder and Marek Zidlicky each have three assists, while Damon Severson has seven shots on goal. Defensively, Cory Schneider has done a solid job of replacing Martin Brodeur by saving 89 of 95 shots, and he’s now won five of his last seven starts. This game will end a four-game road trip for the New Jersey Devils.

Washington Capitals vs. New Jersey Devils - 10/16/14 NHL Pick, Odds, Prediction

The Washington Capitals are 1-0-2 on the season, as they simply haven’t been getting many breaks in the overtime period. The bright side for Washington is that Braden Holtby has been as solid as anyone could have hoped for, as he’s allowed four goals on 60 save attempts and has given up just one goal in his first two starts. Holtby has allowed two or less goals in six of his last eight games. Another positive sign for the Washington Capitals is that Alex Ovechkin has scored four goals and already has 19 shots on goal in the first three games. Mike Green has chipped in two goals, while John Carlson has 10 shots on goal and four assists. The Capitals are playing much better hockey than they were last season, they just need to find ways to carry that energy over to the overtime period.

The Devils are 7-3 in their last 10 games playing on 1 days rest and 19-41 in their last 60 road games. The Capitals are 9-4 in their last 13 games playing on 1 days rest and 1-6 in their last 7 home games. The Devils are 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.

Getting the plus money with the team that's playing some of the best hockey at the moment seems to be the way to go. The Devils have been a scoring machine, while the Capitals have been more of a one-man show on the offensive end.
