The Wild head into Anaheim on Friday night in a marquee battle between two Western Conference heavyweights.
The Wild are one of the teams to watch out for in the Western Conference this season and they’ll look to keep their undefeated streak intact with a victory against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. The schedule makers have things a little wacky at the beginning of the season as the Wild have played just two games both against the same opponent and haven’t played since last Saturday night in which they shut out the Colorado Avalanche by a 4-0 final for the second time in as many tries. Minnesota has been a team on the rise over the last two seasons as they have made the playoffs in successive years and have improved in doing so and even pulled off the upset against the Avs in last year’s opening round. Minny added some pieces in the offseason as well bringing in Thomas Vanek and with Ryan Suter shutting things down at the back end the Wild are going to be a tough out every night of the week.

The Ducks meanwhile have been on fire since dropping their season opener as they have won three in a row all of which have been on the road and this marks the team’s home opener at the Honda Center. Anaheim was one of the best in the league during the regular season a year ago but they were bounced in the second round by the LA Kings who were a runaway train in game sevens but they expect to be back in that position this season and who can doubt them? The Ducks are stacked from top to bottom and can run four lines with a great deal of success but the big question remains can they do enough in goal to keep up with the rest of the team? Anaheim sent Jonas Hiller packing to make way for Frederik Andersen and John Gibson but the latter struggled in his season debut and has since been sent down to the minors leaving Andersen in charge. This is going to be a great game between two solid hockey teams and both teams have a rare Saturday night off and while this is Anaheim’s opener I really like the value the Wild are getting here as a road underdog.
