The Florida Panthers head to the First Niagara Center in search of their first win versus the Buffalo Sabres.
The Florida Panthers came in to the season with high hopes but are still in search of their first victory three games in to the year. The Panthers remained winless after the Ottawa Senators dealt them a 1-0 defeat on Monday at home to drop their record to 0-2-1. Great defense and goaltending for Florida but you still have to score to win and Ottawa's Clarke MacArthur did that for the visitors at the 15:54 mark of the second period to make Craig Anderson's 30 saves a winning performance and gave him his 27th career shutout as the Sens improved to 2-1 in the young season with all three games on the road. Roberto Luongo was outstanding in taking the loss with a 22 save effort. Florida went 0-3 with the man advantage with MacArthur's tally coming with the man advantage. The Panthers offensive night could be termed frustrating at best when Brad Boyes first period breakaway didn't even result with a shot on goal.

The Buffalo Sabres head home looking for consecutive victories after defeating Carolina 4-3 in shootout fashion. A backhander off the stick of Zemgus Girgenson in round eight beat Cam Ward to earn the Sabres their first win of the season. Marcus Foligno found the back of the net twice for Buffalo who also received a goal from Torrey Mitchell. Jhonas Enroth recorded 22 stops to earn the win as Buffalo improved to 1-3. On the flip side the Hurricanes remained winless with the loss and dropped to 0-2-1 after three games. The trio of Zach Boychuk, Riley Nash and Chris Terry were the centerpiece of the Canes attack with each scoring and adding an assist. The loss went to Cam Ward who recorded 23 saves. The Sabres were relieved to have won a game which they led 3-1 in the third and watched Carolina tie it with 1:48 remaining in regulation.
Over is 4-0 in the Panthers last four road games versus a team with home winning % of less then .400 with the under going 5-1 in their last six when allowing two goals or less in their previous game. The Panthers are 1-5 in their last six against a team with a losing record.
The over is 2-0-2 in the Sabres last four versus the Atlantic, 2-0-2 in the last four versus a team with a road winning % of less then .400 and 3-0-1 in the last four when their opponent scores two goals or less in their previous game.
Head to head the Panthers are 4-1 in the past five meetings, 4-1 in the last five visits to Buffalo while the road team is 5-2 in the last seven. The trends might favor Florida but neither team is firing on all cylinders to start the season. There is no line or goalie confirmation so please check back for a final pick by Friday afternoon when the numbers are out and I can digest them...
