Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks - 10/17/14

Vancouver Canucks (2-0-0) at Edmonton Oilers (0-3-1)

NHL Hockey: Friday

The Line: Edmonton Oilers +136 / Vancouver Canucks -150 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Oilers look for some retribution on home ice after losing in a shootout in Vancouver last weekend with this meeting coming in Edmonton.

The Canucks underwent a face lift both on and off the ice over the last few months and now with a handful of games under their belt we can finally shift the attention back to the play on the ice and the Canucks will look to get back to the playoffs this season. Vancouver has won both games this season but they haven’t played since last Saturday’s tilt against the Oilers giving them ample time to rest and get prepared for the same side on the road while their opponents have played two contests since, losing both of them. Vancouver is rock solid between the pipes with former Sabres and Blues goaltender Ryan Miller taking over and while they say Vancouver is a nightmare for starting goalies Miller is excited to be given the chance to succeed in the building where he suffered his greatest heartbreak in the 2010 Winter Olympics while playing for the United States.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks - 10/17/14

Edmonton meanwhile has yet to win a game this season and have but one point that they earned via the shootout loss to Vancouver last weekend and they’re coming off two shellackings this week against the Kings and Coyotes.  Edmonton has already given up 23 goals this season which is a staggering average just under six per game and even the average hockey fan knows you can’t win games that way and until they get some stable goaltending or their defense steps up this team is going to remain in the Western Conference basement. The Oilers actually had their best game of the young season against the Canucks and it was in Vancouver for their home opener making me think they can show up here against the same opponent this time in their own arena. Edmonton always plays Vancouver closely and I think the layoff this early in the season will actually hurt the Canucks and I like the home side to get it done this time and even things out.
