The Chicago Blackhawks welcome the Nashville Predators to the United Center for some Saturday night hockey.
The Nashville Predators turned up the defensive pressure in a 2-0 decision at Winnipeg on Friday night. Both teams turned in impressive defensive performances but as the Jets learned you still have to score to win. Mike Ribeiro gave Pekka Rinne all the scoring they needed with 3:40 remaining in the opening frame when he redirected a shot past Ondrej Pavelec for a 1-0 lead. Nashville doubled their advantage when offseason acquisition James Neal scored off a pass from Filip Forsberg at the 7:40 mark of the third with Rinne taking over from there. Rinne recorded 31 stops in ruining the Jets home opener with his 33rd career shutout with Pavelec taking the defeat with 25 saves not enough as Winnipeg continued to struggle offensively with a goal in three games.

The Chicago Blackhawks let one get away in a 2-1 overtime loss to visiting Calgary on Wednesday night. This game was dominated by the Blackhawks at both ends of the ice as thet outshot the Flames by an almost laughable 50-18 mark although I'm sure their was no laughing in the Hawks locker room. Mikael Backlund scored just 25 seconds remaining in overtime to the relief of Calgary and the frustration of Chicago. Dennis Wideman gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the second before the Blackhawks tied the game with their 7th power play of the night when Andrew Shaw finally solved Jonas Hiller with under six minutes remaining in regulation. Hiller came up with 49 saves in the win with Corey Crawford facing only 18 shots in defeat. Calgary snapped a ten game losing streak in the Windy City as an added bonus.
The Predators are 4-0 in their last four versus a team with a winning record, and 5-1 in the last six overall while going 4-1 in the last five match ups with the Western Conference. The Blackhawks are 5-0 in the past five contests versus a team with a winning percentage greater then .600. Chicago is 9-2 in the last eleven games against the Central but in head to head bouts with Nashville the Predators have gone 4-1. It seems as if the Predators might have the advantage according too the trends but if there is one team that is out for redemption it has to be the Blackhawks who want to erase the memory of that strange loss to Calgary. I need to get a look at who is in goal and when the netminders are confirmed I'll have a pick no later then Saturday afternoon...
